Tour Makovecz
The guided tour offers special experience for all those interested in organic architecture. Emblematic roof structures and interiors by the recently passed architect are renowned beyond our borders.
The following buildings and facilities, all of them designed by Imre Makovecz, will be introduced by a professional tour guide:
Onion house
Cultural centre of the town, featuring an open-air stage on the rear facade, facing a little plaza. Its towers resemble high grown trees. The building is a flagship of organic architecture.
Erdei János Sports hall
The second work of the Master in Makó, built after the Onion House, finished in 2001.
Reconstruction work of the building of the József Attila High School
Simultaneously to the sports hall, the gymnasium building was also renewed and it was finished in 2001.
Thermal and Medical Bath
A forerunner of the later Hagymatikum Bath complex.
Széchenyi square
As a result of reconstructions of the square in front of the Crown, the plaza now features a pedestrian place, decoration and drinking fountains.
Kossuth Lajos statue
The statue was fully restored, just like the square it is to be found in.
Bus station
With its curved, curved forms and the structure of the wood, it forms an organic whole with its surroundings.
Primary School of Makó – Extention of the school building in Kálvin square
Imre Makovecz and his team designed a semi-circular, two storey reception building with a loft.
Nursery in Búza street
A building situated in the Newtown area of Makó.
Hagymatikum Thermal Bath
Makovecz’s last, most remarkable and largest work, considerably the most influential building of the town.
House of Civil Offices
A downtown business centre finished in 2011, it is currently houses the local doctor practices and the land registry office.
Music Pavilion
The famous architect dreamed a beautiful park to the front of the Hagymatikum, featuring huge green surfaces and decorative pavement, turned into a pedestrian zone. Beside the bath, this was the last design work of the renowned architect. After his death, the plaza was named after him.
